Janice & Paolo - 2 Day Workshop

June 17th & 18th, 2000

Registration

Janice Wilson and Paolo Lanna will be teaching two days of workshops in Albany, New York. These workshops are for dancers who have already the basic Lindy steps - swingout from open and closed, the Lindy circle, and some Charleston - and are ready to polish and refine their basic moves and learn some new steps, too.

No partner is needed, and registration will be limited to the first 40 leads and follows - 80 people total - so get your registration form and check in ASAP!! Don't be disappointed - this will sell out! The workshops and Saturday night dance will be held in Albany; exact location to be announced.

Workshop Schedule

Saturday, June 17th
10:00am - 10:30am - Registration
10:30am - 11:45am - Jazz Steps For Lindy Hop
Learn the jazz steps you've seen in the swing line dances - the Shim Sham, the Jitterbug Stroll, and Big Apple - and how to use them to jazz up your Lindy Hop.
11:45am - 12:00pm - Break
12:00pm - 1:15pm - Lindy Movement
Janice's Take Home Exercises are her creation and trademark. A series of exercises and motion studies will help you understand and develop the stance, the center and the movement that make Lindy Hop unique from East Coast Swing.
1:15pm - 2:30pm - Lunch
2:30pm - 3:45pm - Basic Lindy
You know the basic steps - swingout from open and closed, Lindy Circle, some Charleston - now it's time to focus and improve the details including frame, connection and lead and follow.
3:45pm - 4:00pm - Break
4:00pm - 5:15pm - Lindy/Charleston Combinations
Learn Charleston basics and variations and how to incorporate them into your Lindy Hop. Dancers should already know the basic Charleston step.
Sunday, June 18th
10:00am - 10:30am - Registration
10:30am - 11:45am - Lindy Hop Styling
Take the basics and variations and make them work for your unique dance style and personality.
11:45am - 12:00pm - Break
12:00pm - 1:15pm - Shim Sham Or Jitterbug Stroll
Depending upon time and progress, we will take the steps learned on Saturday and combine them into one of these popular line dances. Note: You must take the JAZZ STEPS FOR LINDY HOP on Saturday to take this class.
1:15pm - 2:30pm - Lunch
2:30pm - 3:45pm - Musicality For Lindy Hop
The beauty of Lindy Hop is that as an 8 (rather than 6) count dance it's already in sync with the structure of swing music. Now learn to really listen to the music - the structure, the mood, the rhythm, the breaks - and make your dancing work with the song.
3:45pm - 4:00pm - Break
4:00pm - 5:15pm - Lindy Hop - The Next Level
Dancers in this class should already be completely comfortable learning variations and with leading and following the swingout from open and closed and the Lindy Circle. This class will be series of more advanced variations on all of the basic steps. Note: You must take the BASIC LINDY class on Saturday to take this class.
