Changes To Their Streets And Traffic Patterns I am writing to tell you about an exciting project and to invite you to participate. Beginning this month, two downtown neighborhoods in Troy will have the opportunity to suggest changes to their streets and traffic patterns. The map at right identifies these neighborhoods, just north of and just south of the collar City Bridge. Meetings for the whole community are being planned by an RPI team and will be hosted by the ROSA Community Land Trust initiative. This letter is being sent to neighborhood residents, businesses, city officials, and community organizations. Help us generate plans that address your needs and concerns I am project coordinator, leading a team of advanced engineering students. Dr. George List of Civil Engineering is also supporting the project as a resource. We are exploring innovative traffic calming and traffic engineering techniques being applied in other U.S. cities and abroad. With the interest and support of the City of Troy Planning Department, we want to look at new and different ways to configure traffic in this important section of Troy. The project aims at effective, low-cost approaches that take into account the City's limited resources. If you drive, walk, ride a bike, or push a stroller through this area we need your ideas Community participation is the foundation of this process. The people who live and work in this area are the experts. Please plan on joining:
These neighborhoods have experienced a great deal of change in the past twenty years. Many good things are beginning to happen here: business growth, the bike path, federal funds, and the emerging Community Land Trust. Today, and together, we can promote improvements in safety, comfort, and appearance. The first meeting was scheduled for February 22, 1997. Notification to TUI was received to late for our February Newsletter and calendar of events, thus we were unable to provide proper notification to you, our readers. If you are interested in contributing your ideas please write or contact David Levinger, Project Coordinator at 276-8503 or at Department of Science and Technology Studies, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, New York 12180-3590.
