Seasonal Favorite Comes To The Stage

The NYS Theatre Institute celebrates the holidays this year with the Capital Region's first staging of the full-scale musical A Wonderful Life, one of America's favorite seasonal stories, opening at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 29. Morning shows run December 1-16; performances on weekends continue through December 13.

A Wonderful Life is not what George Bailey expects to find in his upstate New York home town. George dreams of traveling the world and going to school to become an architect, but after the sudden loss of his father, he stays behind in Bedford Falls to run the family business. George falls in with the traditional values and rhythms of quotidian small town life. He and Mary Hatch fall in love, marry, and have children. He is loved, trusted, and respected, yet considers himself a failure. When the cold-hearted banker Henry Potter masterminds a crisis to ruin him, George completely loses faith in himself and cannot seem to find a way out. Clarence, a guardian angel who hasn't yet earned his wings, makes a spirited intervention to convince George of the importance of each individual life and the power of love.

A Wonderful Life will open at 2pm Sunday, November 29. Morning performances at 10 are scheduled December 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 , 9, 10, 11,15, and 16. Weekend performances continue at 8pm on Friday and Saturday, December 5, 1 1, and 12, with matinees at 2pm on Sunday, December 6 and 13.

All performances will take place at the Schacht Fine Arts Center on the campus of Russell Sage College in Troy. Tickets, easy directions to the theatre, and other information are available through the NYS Theatre Institute Box Office, 274-3256.
