Classical Concert - Choir To Perform Faure's "Requiem"

The Chancel Choir of First United Presbyterian Church, 1915 Fifth Ave., Troy, will perform the intensely beautiful "Requiem" of Gabriel Faure at lO:00a.m, during worship on Sunday, March 2l,1999 This beloved and enduring masterpiece will be sung with accompaniment of organ and strings. The public is invited to attend.

Vocal soloists for the occasion are nationally acclaimed opera singers from New York City, soprano Mary Paul and baritone Lawrence Alexander. Among many other venues, Ms. Paul has appeared in such venues as the Washington, D C. Opera Company at Kennedy Center, the Miami Opera Association, and Michigan Opera Theater in roles such as Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera and Norina in Don Pasquale. Mr. Alexander includes among his credits performances with Miami Opera Association, Sarasota Opera Company, and the Anchorage Opera Company. Known for the Verdian stature of his voice, he has been featured in roles such as the title character in Rigoletto, Count di Luna in Il Trovatore, and Tonio in Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci. The ensemble will be under the direction of Dr. David Rives, Music Director at First United Presbyterian and music faculty member at Skidmore College. There is no admission fee and is open to the public.
