Historic Lansingburgh

Historic Lansingburgh Talk at Troy Public Library. Michael Barrett, local lecturer and tour leader, will present a talk on "Historic Lansingburgh" on Monday, November 1st at 7 p.m. at Troy Public Library.

This slide talk, based on his popular tour of Historic Lansingburgh, will begin with the settlement of Lansingburgh in the 1750's and the founding of "New City" in 1771. Barrett will discuss severeral pre-Revolutionary buildings still extant, some old homes including those of Herman Melville and Chester Arthur, and cover such topics as shipping and ship building, brush-making and oil cloth.

Barrett is a member of many local historical societies, and has lectured at, or led tours for, dozens of different organizations. He is a Trustee of the Brunswick Historical Society, a past Chairman of the Capital District Civil War Roundtable and Editor of their newsletter.
